Our Commitment to Future Professionals
CRA Hosts Nuclear Safety and Regulation events for The Nuclear Institute Young Generation Network (YGN).

CRA was proud to have hosted the inaugural YGN Rough Guide to Nuclear Safety and Regulation with substantial organisational input by our own Mike Zammett.

The key aim of the event was to introduce safety assurance and regulation with a focus on the nuclear industry in the UK. It also provided an international perspective on safety and regulation in this as well as in other industries.

Continued Professional Development
CRA is very committed to the development of its staff. Our staff being our greatest asset, we strive to develop each consultant technically and professionally.

For more junior staff, Initial Professional Development (IPD) focuses on attaining the competencies and experience required to achieve Chartered status with their chosen professional institution. For our more experienced staff, our Continued Professional Development (CPD) programme provides support to allow maintenance of existing skills and expertise, while developing new ones in complimentary areas.

CRA provides a structured approach to IPD and CPD through CRA’s Professional Development Forum, which is held on a quarterly basis. The forum provides an opportunity to support consultant’s development through knowledge sharing, progress monitoring, topical open discussions and technical presentations. It acts as a point of focus for professional development while allowing each individual to drive their own progress. 

Nuclear Technology Education Consortium
CRA has long established links with the Nuclear Technology Education Consortium (NTEC). A number of CRA’s consultants have completed a MSc in Nuclear Science and Technology through NTEC and continue to act as ambassadors for the course. CRA has successfully supported a number of students with industry based dissertation projects on topics such as, ‘Component Reliability Assessments for Nuclear Instrumentation’ and ‘Study Into the Effects of Radiation Exposure on Seismic Integrity Claims for a Neutron Detector’. CRA has attended open days and careers fairs organised by NTEC and has given presentations to the students on career opportunities at the company and what risk consultancy involves. The relationship has been mutually beneficial and continues into the future with CRA offering further industry based dissertation projects each summer.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network (STEMNET) create opportunities to inspire young people in STEM.

STEMNET strives to deliver our vision and purpose by working with thousands of schools, colleges and STEM employers, to enable young people of all backgrounds and abilities to meet inspiring role models, understand real world applications of STEM subjects and experience hands-on STEM activities that motivate, inspire and bring learning and career opportunities to life.

CRA actively supports the principles of STEMNET, which align closely with the company’s commitment to ensure the transfer of knowledge and the development of the next generation of Engineers to support UK industry. Several CRA employees are active STEM Ambassadors volunteering their time to promote STEM subjects to young learners in a vast range of original, creative, practical and engaging ways. CRA also works hard to ensure that the population of STEM Ambassadors reflects the diversity of the population that they volunteer to support. CRA is a learning organization and has several Women Ambassadors who support organizations such as the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), to promote engineering careers to young women.

We are also in partnership with Imperial College, London, supporting two nuclear engineering doctoral programmes to develop practical expertise in nuclear safety and risk assessment for the next generation of nuclear engineers who will deliver the world's nuclear future.
